Overwolf is a development platform that lets creators build, share and monetize in-game apps - It’s the “engine” that lets apps operate. Overwolf tools let developers bring their apps in-game (with overlays), track game events in real-time, and make an honest living off their creations.
For gamers, Overwolf provides safety by vouching for apps. Apps published on Overwolf have been manually tested for quality, malware and performance. We also make sure all apps comply with the game developer’s terms - so you know you’re safe from bans. -
In one word - cheats. If we’d open-source our tech, or just provide an engine like Unity does for games, we won’t be able to make sure some developers don’t use it to create cheats. As a result we’re able to establish a trusted standing with game developers and make sure you’re always safe from bans when using apps on Overwolf. See how we work with Riot Games here.

No. We work closely with game publishers and app developers alike, to make sure all apps on Overwolf comply with the terms of the games. Read more about how we keep gamers safe from bans here.

We’ve spent years engineering the sh@# out of our platform to make sure it’s lightweight and lag free. The Overwolf client itself has practically zero overhead, and each individual app (except video capture apps) is roughly as demanding as a browser tab. Video capture apps are as demanding as capturing video with OBS. We have strict policies as well as incentive mechanisms to make sure 3rd party creators take performance very seriously. No. When you install an app designed for a specific game, Overwolf will only be enabled for that game. The app will then get permission to in-game overlays to that game alone, and won’t affect any other game. You can always set the games for which Overwolf is enabled in the Overwolf settings screen.

Sure. You can set the games for which Overwolf is enabled in the Overwolf settings screen.

App developers may choose to integrate ads or subscriptions in their app. Overwolf’s share from these earnings is 20-30%. This helps the creators make a living doing what they love, and results in you getting a better product. Subscriptions remove ads and may add extra premium features. Overwolf has strict policies on how creators are allowed to place in-app ads, in a way that is not intrusive. Read more here.

Some apps may offer a subscription model that provides an ad-free experience and possibly premium features. If an app you like does not offer this plan, be sure to share this feedback with the app’s creators and ask them to add this option!
